What is Ankylosing Spondylitis?
A condition in what is known as a seronegative spondyloarthropathy is the Ankylosing Spondylitis. It is seronegative as it is negative for the rheumatoid factor that shows that it is not rheumatoid arthritis. This condition frequently affects the spine mostly but can affect other organ systems and other joints in the body. It is not uncommon to develop heel pain. Ankylosing Spondylitis is associated with a particular type of genetic makeup. The diagnosis of this condition can take up to 10 years as the first symptoms are usually very similar to the typical and regular back pain and it is often treated as that. It is not until the pattern is recognized as other symptoms appear is the diagnosis made.
