When my fifteen year old son came in the house, or should I say “stormed” into the house, I immediately knew that something was really wrong. I heard him stomp up the stairs and slam his door pretty hard. Then his music came on excessively loud. I waited for him to come back downstairs, but when that didn’t happen I decided that I should check on him. I was surprised to see how red his eyes were, although he tried to pretend that he was fine. Finally, after some gentle prodding, he sadly whispered, “I just got dumped.” My heart went out to him as I remembered having that same first experience so many years ago. Growing up can be tough.
