I can tell you from experience that it is no fun having a broken garage door opener.  If you have ever bought an older home, you know how hard it can be to find parts for items someone else added.  The house I bought was not that old but the previous owner had installed the garage door opener himself.  No sooner had I moved in that a part broke.  I was frantic, since it was winter and I hated getting out of my car to open the heavy door.  Luckily I found that it is very easy to find garage door opener parts online and a friendly neighbor easily installed them.  I am now enjoying my new home again.
