If you live in a small space but want to be able to have people stay over, the best bet is to buy a good air mattress for guests.  You can quickly have it up and ready if you need it, but just as quickly have it stowed away when they’re gone.  They range in price but it’s definitely something where you get what you pay for.  I have owned several cheap ones that have gotten holes in them pretty instantly.  So I finally broke down and bought a nice one and no holes so far.  It was worth the extra money!
